Knife defence training - what should I use?

Pleased to say that our new safety knives are in. These make for much safer knife work and sparring especially when you are teaching people that arent that familiar with knife defence.

The normal training knife (in the middle) may not be a live blade but it's still a pretty nasty unbendable metal force amplifier which can leave some really deep bruising and cuts if you get caught wrong.

This results in a reluctance to stab from the "attacker" which impacts the defenders technique as suddenly they are training against half hearted "air" stabs 5 inches away from where a real attacker would be targeting.

Or worse the attacker is happy to stab away but after eating a few the defender doesn't want any of it and is just trying to survive until their turns over rather than practicing the defence.

It's much better to find a tool that the defender and attacker are happy to go all out with and build their skills by having them attack each other and defend realistically.

Being in constant fear of injury makes for knee jerk reactions and bad form especially when you are first learning a technique, concept or defence!

Now I know there is this notion that all training should be full force ultra realistic Dogbrother type nonsense, but the notion of training with live blades and allowing your students to get bruised and cut up with even blunted metal knifes is a pretty old fashioned one that's been thoroughly debunked numerous times.
